Rahel (b. 1954) grew up in a suburb of Boston, Massachusetts (USA). She studied music at an early age at the Longy School of Music in Cambridge, MA, learned jazz guitar using the Berklee College of Music method and gained certification in Early Childhood Education as part of her High School education. Rahel also learned Renaissance recorder, clowning and mastered the art of playing the spoons from the local Irish musicians in Boston!
In 1976 Rahel moved to Israel where her career as a musician, educator and actor blossomed and flourished. She graduated from Empire State College, the Israel branch of the State University of New York, in 1982 with a major in Musical and Theater Arts for Children. She continued to master additional guitar techniques studying privately with Avner Strauss, Aharoni ben Ari and Victor Azus and took music classes at the Jerusalem Rubin Academy of Dance and Music.
From 1976 Rahel focused on music performance, acted in theater troupes, with puppeteers and in improv and children's theater. She produced three musical productions in English for children.
In 1981 Rahel joined "Tofa'ah", an all-woman's band, as a founding member and main songwriter. Her original songs are featured on numerous recordings. Together with the groups' founder, Yona Yacobovitch, she co-founded "Tof Miriam", a non-profit organization supporting women in the arts. They established the first three Women's Festivals in Israel. Rahel was a regular featured performer at the Jacob's Ladder International Folk Festival and at folk clubs and venues around Israel. She performed in duos, trios, groups and bands as a guitarist and harmony singer, finally breaking out as a soloist in 1995.
In 1986 Rahel earned certifications in Barbara Cass-Beggs' "Listen Like Learn and Your Baby Needs Music" (LLL/YBNM) programs for babies and young children. She formed the "Listen Like Learn Association" and was instrumental in adapting the program to the needs of Israelis. She supervised Hebrew translations of children's songs and certified new teachers in this new innovative comprehensive music method. The LLL/YBNM programs soon became standard fare for public and private family day-care, kindergarten facilities and as part of Misgav Ladach Hospital's program for new parents.
In 1998 Rahel returned to the USA where she recorded numerous CD's of her original music available now online (click on Downloads).
In 2004 Rahel studied and worked as a Therapeutic Music Practitioner and Certified Clinical Musician (CCM). She provided "music medicine" to the ill, dying, for healing, comfort, stress and pain relief and for all those who can benefit from this form of energetic medicine. She produced music for premature babies for Dr. Betsy Diamant-Cohen's "Mother Goose on the Loose - Goslings" program.
In 2016 Rahel collaborated with Amavevane Acapella, a group of singers from Zimbabwe living in Johannesburg, South Africa. They formed "The Healing Light Project", a non-profit project to share cultures through music and dance as a peace effort. They toured in South Africa and in 2017 in Israel. They are planning future collaborations around the world.
In 2018 at age 64 Rahel set out to travel once again and found herself in Busan, South Korea volunteering as an English Language teacher. A 'free spirit", Rahel spent her free hours busking at Haeundae Beach where she became a fixture for nine beautiful months!
Rahel moved to Seoul in May 2019 after signing on with DXD Entertainment to revive her career as an actor, model and musician. She appears in movies, dramas, commercials, music videos and more.
Look for Rahel in major movies including "강철비2: 정상회담 - Steel Rain2: Summit, 2019" and in a supporting role in the upcoming "Space Sweepers (Korean: 승리호; RR: Seungriho; lit. Spaceship Victory)" Korea's first major science fiction movie starring Song Joong Ki and Kim Tae Ri.
